Punny Tales 03/29/2010
Sometimes we just need to tell a punny tale! But what is a punny tale? Usually it is a twisting of words to create something familiar in an odd way. Sometimes when you hear a punny tale you usually groan! Hense the name, groaner! However a good punny tale at the right time can really make your program lighten up. I've included two of my favorites. Use them and have fun! Medieval Carnaval Back in the middle ages, there was a travelling show which travelled throughout Europe. It was famous across the whole continent for it's fabulous and death-defying shows. The show was named "The Show of Tension", because of the daring nature of most of the stunts, and thus the performers and other staff associated with the show gained the nickname "Tensions". Sadly, the shows didn't survive the poverty that swept Europe in the middle ages. As people got poorer, they couldn't afford to spend money on frivolous things like a travelling show. And thus was born the expression "unable to pay a tension"... Game Show Cheat The television game show was being recorded. The contestant was in the hot seat for the last big question. The host turned to him, and read the question slowly and carefully. But the contestant didn't know the answer! Fortunately, he had a backup plan (there was no way he was missing out on this million bucks!). He let out a piercing whistle, and from the back of the stage, four mounted knights-in-armour appeared, waving their lances threateningly at the show's host. The host looked scared for a moment, and then a steely look came over him. He leapt into the air, and karate kicked the first knight onto the floor. He picked up the lance from the stricken knight, and fought off the second, who also fell spawling on the floor. The second knight's horse bolted, colliding with the third knight in the process. The game show host was just begining to enjoy himself now. He waved the spear he was still carrying at the fourth knight, looked back at the contestant, and said "Is that your final lancer?"
